It may never have been programmed
The most common reason a new key does not work is that it was cut but never programmed. A blade copied at a kiosk or hardware store will turn the lock and may even crank the starter, but the immobilizer will not let the engine run because it does not recognize the chip.
If your key opens the door and turns but the car will not start, and a security light stays on, this is almost certainly the issue. Programming the key to your vehicle is what makes it start.
Wrong part, bad cut, or dead battery
A new key can also be the wrong part. If the chip, frequency, or blank does not match your exact year, make, and model, it will not work even after a programming attempt. This is common with bargain online fobs that only look correct.
Two simpler causes round out the list. A miscut blade may not turn smoothly or at all, and a brand-new fob can ship with a weak or dead coin battery, which knocks out the remote and proximity functions. Each of these is easy for a locksmith to diagnose.
How we fix it on site
When you call, we confirm whether the key is the correct part, check the cut, test the battery, and verify whether it was actually programmed. From there we either program it, recut it, replace the battery, or swap it for the right part.
If you bought a key elsewhere, bring it and we will test it. If it is usable, we program it; if not, we supply and program one that works, all in one visit in Palm Beach County.
