Search smart before you panic
Retrace your exact path from the car to your spot, scanning the dry sand first since it is easier than the wet zone. Check inside your beach bag, towel folds, cooler, and shoes, because keys love to hide in the gear you carried. If you have a smart key, listen for the lock or panic chirp as you get near the car.
If the keys went into the water, mark where you were standing and search the shallows by feel during low tide. Salt water and sand are hard on electronics, so even a recovered fob may not work reliably afterward. Keep your phone handy and ask nearby beachgoers if anyone turned in a set.
Getting back on the road
If the keys are truly gone, a mobile locksmith can come to the beach parking lot and make a new key for most vehicles, even when every key is lost. We identify the right key for your year, make, and model, cut it to your car, and program it so the engine starts before we leave.
Bring a photo ID and proof that the car is yours, such as the registration or insurance card. This protects you and confirms we are helping the rightful owner. We serve every public beach and lot across Palm Beach County, so you are not stranded for long.
Avoiding it next time
A waterproof pouch worn around your neck or a zippered, secured pocket keeps keys off the open towel where they get buried or swept away. Some drivers leave the fob locked in the car and carry only the cut emergency blade in a waterproof case.
Having a spare key at home is the cheapest insurance there is. If your keys do go missing in the surf, a spare lets you get the car home and replace the lost key on your own schedule rather than in a rush.
